Newton Wayne Historical Society
Did you ever wonder what life was like in the Past? Who the first settlers in the area were? What businesses existed? How people Supported themselves? And what about the river and canals…and trains?
Perhaps we can help answer some of your questions.
The Newton Wayne Historical Society, located in a repurposed 1897 Schoolhouse in Newton
Hamilton on Water Street, has been documenting, preserving, and promoting the history of
Newton Hamilton and Wayne Township since the borough’s 1993 Sesquicentennial.
The Society’s museum collection provides a look back in time by interpreting the history of
the people, places, events, and traditions of this area. Sports memorabilia, household and
church items, train sets, old photographs and more are on display. Displays rotate as new
items come in. You may even discover some information or relics from your own ancestors!

As an advocate for the
preservation of the region’s
history, the Society purchased
one of the remaining
Lockkeeper’s houses along the
Juniata Branch of the PA
Canal in 2019. Extensive
renovations are underway

The Society is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) PA nonprofit. Our community-based board of
directors meets monthly at the Schoolhouse. Your tax deductible donations would be most
appreciated. Checks can be made out to the Newton Wayne Historical Society, and mailed to:
