Local PennDOT Work to Start—Please Use Caution.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced work will begin this Friday, March 28, to replace two bridges spanning Long Hollow Run along Route 22 in Wayne Township, Mifflin County, beginning approximately two miles Northeast of Mount Union. This project will improve the overall condition rating of the bridges from poor to good.

During the first phase of the project drivers can expect to encounter flaggers on the roadway with daytime lane closures and should anticipate short travel delays. A work zone of approximately 0.28 miles will encompass both bridge replacement sites. Motorists are asked to be alert for workers and equipment in the roadway, be prepared for sudden stops, and not to follow trucks into the closed lanes as they deliver material.

As this project moves forward, temporary roadways will be constructed to carry traffic around the construction site. Once the temporary roadways are put into use, traffic control will be managed with long-term temporary traffic signals. PennDOT will issue updates as implementation of this alternate traffic pattern approaches.

Overall work on this project includes the replacement of the existing bridges with new box culvert structures, reconstruction of the approaching roadway, grading improvements, guide rail upgrades, and related construction. HRI of State College is the contractor on this $2.5 million project. PennDOT anticipates completion in August.
